Unpredictable Interview Questions

interview3Do you find yourself facing difficult behavior interview questions? Do you know how to prepare for these questions?  Whether you are a very experienced professional or a new entry into the workforce, facing and answering behavior questions is always challenging.  That's the point.  We recommend people spend time before every interview considering possible questions and practicing your answers.  Even if you don’t know what the questions will be you should be ready to face a variety of them.

Business school blog Poets & Quants presents the article “Toughest Questions HBS Ask Applicants” offering some interesting samples of these types of questions.  Take time to read each question and say your answers out loud, hear what you sound like.  Are you confident and do you answer them clearly?  These may not be the questions you are asked, but they help you get ready for this type of questioning.  In almost all professional interviews there is an experienced interviewer who will use lead in questions that start with, "tell me about a time…" and you have to be ready!

Take special note of the comments posted with this Poets & Quants article.  Some see behavioral questions as a silly game, while others acknowledge that you have to play the game if you want to join the party.  Probably the best strategy is to be prepared to play the game and answer such questions AND always be prepared to bridge your answer to your key messages about why you are a great candidate for the opportunity.
