HR issues continue to play a significant role in the upcoming presidential election. There are several critical proposed HR changes and issues that are part of the presidential debates. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently released an article that summarizes candidates’ views on various HR related topics. No matter which way you lean -- left, right or center -- this article helps you understand the candidates' takes on various hot topics.

In summary:

  • Expanding overtime pay eligibility appears favored by Democrats and opposed by Republicans.
  • Everyone appears to be opposed to the so-called Cadillac Tax on high-benefit health plans, set to kick off in 2020.
  • Candidates across the board appear split on a federal mandate for paid family leave.
