Some Holiday party, huh? The office is still talking about it. Especially about you. Apparently you had just a little too much to drink and, well, you weren’t quite yourself.
In the article “Is Your Reputation Still Suffering from a Christmas Party Blunder?”, Kazim Ladimeji with Recruiter.com outlines a four-step recovery plan that doesn’t involve hari kari, but just some common sense actions you can take both to repair the damage now and to move ahead smarter in the future.
His plan includes:
- Apologize
- Clean up social media
- Be realistic
- Show everyone you can do the right thing
We'd like to add to this Four-step plan a fifth step: “Make amends.” Nothing supports your sincere apology and your desire to show you can do the right thing like sincere action. Buy lunch for the office, get a new plant for the reception area, make a visible donation in honor of the company, sponsor a group seminar. In any case, make it something of value you pay from your own pocket!
The most important thing to remember: It’s the end of the year, not your career.
